From the 1st October 2010 the current exemption from the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices will end. It will be replaced by a NMW for all apprentices aged under 19 and apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship.
The new NMW applies to time spent working plus time spent training that is part of the Apprenticeship. Employers are free to pay above the new NMW, as many already do, and this change will not affect that.
The Apprentice NMW will be £2.50 per hour.

Babington Business College Success in the Accounting Skills
Competition Organised by WorldSkills UK
As newcomers to the competition, Babington were very much thrown in at the deep end. Derby Centre learners Daniel Inglis, Rebecca Jones and Louise Muggleton performed exceptionally well to finish as winners of the first heat scoring a near-perfect 97%!
Daniel, Rebecca and Louise will go into the final in good stead which will be held at AAT Headquarters on 26 June 2010. I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing them the best of luck.

I am delighted and proud to be leading Babington into a new era. I will also be joined by Frank Lord (Chair) and Jonathan Hendry (Finance Director), complementing the existing highly experienced team; Corrina Hembury (Training Director) and Anna Acton (Development Director). We are conscious that it is a pivotal time [in the current economic climate] and plan to build on Babington’s quality to offer more and greater value for money.
